Will The Discontinued Medicine Without Consulting A Doctor Cause Any Big Problem?

Hai I am Rajesh 42 years old
During 1991 - 94 I had fits very frequently. And my doctor prescied
Eptoin 100 mg 3 tablet in night
Valparin 200 mg 1 tablet in night
I was taking the above Medicine till 15 August

In 2003 I was diagnosed with hypertension / Highh BP and palpitation and the follow medicine was advised to take
I to had cholesterol
Nicardia r 10 mg
Calaptin 40 mg
Lipicure

Last month I had an stomach problem and consulted an gastroloust and adv tht I hv fatty liver may be because of eptoin / cholesterol tablet / Valparin
So without consulting the doctor I hv stopped eptoin and Valparin now whe I checked the below test
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring
Phenytoin (Serum/Chemiluminescence) 0.9
Time of last :
Therapeutic range: 10 - 20 ug/mli
I am little worried rage is vey low what should I do now is this cause big problem

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your details. It is not good to stop anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) without doctor's advice. This is because you may have recurrence of fits.

I agree with the gastroenterologist that AEDs may cause liver damage, especially valparin (sodium valproate). However, we need to assess the risk of seizures in future. If there is a risk, then, you need to be on AEDs. A drug such as levetiracetam may be used, which is safe for liver.
