Would Benadryl Tablets Help In Treating Swelling And Itching Caused By Ant Bites?

Hello yesterday I was bitten by 25 fire ants at one time. This is not the first time I have been bitten by them (about 2 years ago) My left foot & ankle is hot and swollen. cleaned with witch hazel & Put Ice pack on it. Used cortisone 10 every 4 hrs for itching. Still burns & hurts.. Would Benadril tablets help with this?

Hello,

You developed an allergic reaction to the ant bite and so there is swelling, itching, burning sensation etc.

Prednisolone( cortisone) is a strong anti-allergic drug and in your case, it should have been taken 20 mg every six hours to start with and then tapering the dose accordingly.

Benadryl is also an anti-allergic drug and if given simultaneously with a steroid, it will certainly help.
