Would Diphenhydramine Slow Muscle Recovery/ Impair Muscle Growth?

Would Diphenhydramine slow muscle recovery/ impair muscle growth? Hypothetically speaking, if I had taken around 300 mg of Diphenhydramine 2 nights prior, would it be stalling or negatively affect my gains in muscular strength and mass permanently? Does the anticholinergic effect have anything to do with it?

Hello and thank you for your question. You should never take that much diphenhydramine. The maximum safe dose of diphenhydramine is 50 mg. Please never take such a large dose. I do not think it would impair your muscle strength permanently but such a large dose of diphenhydramine can cause extreme sleepiness, confusion, weakness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, large pupils, dry mouth, flushing, fever, shaking, insomnia, hallucinations, and possibly seizures. Please never take more than 25-50 mg as needed.
