Would A Bone Marrow Biopsy Be Helpful In Case Of Numerous Lung Infections?
I have had numerous lung infections and intersticial lung disease. Also blood work showed high metamyelocytes, high myelocytes, and abnormal anisocytosis. My pulmonologist thinks it would be a good idea to have a bone marrow biopsy. Please help with any possible answers to this. Thank you.
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion the doctors may suspect either blood malignancy or bone marrow infection. When in peripheral smear we get precursor cells like myelocytes and metamyelocytes possibility of malignancy is high. And in advanced stage this kind of patient can show lung metastasis. So bone marrow is needed to rule out this. Another advantage is if the treating doctor suspect chronic blood infection than isolation of organism from bone marrow can be done. So get done bone marrow to get further evidence s.
