Would High Cholesterol And BP Cause Loss Of Appetite?

My mother is 81, was a healthy women who was active 4day a week tennis player, played bridge 5 days, and shopped and got around on her own just fine. Most nights my dad and she went out socially for dinner with other couples. Her last vacation w/ my dad was Sept. 2010 on a cruise to Egypt, Turkey, Italy, etc. she participated in all excursions. (she weighed in at about 120 5 3) Fast forward to Aug.2011 my dad dies, we r all devastated and my mother starts to wither away. Starts to lose energy. Blood work done, heart, lung stress test all perfect. 78 lbs, no appetite, making the bed exusts her. She s on sleeping pill/antidepressant. Cholesterol and Bloodpressure med.(only went up after dad died) she has no appetite EVER!! What can I do? I could not save my daddy he hid his illness please I don t want to lose her!!!!!! Lisa

Your mother is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.It may months to many years depending o the patient to become normal.She needs counselling from a psychiatrist.She should continue Anti anxiety,Antidepressants along with Anti hypertensive,cholesterol lowering drugs.She should be engaged in some work.Divert her by change of place or taking to a tour.Always she should be accompanied by some one.Monitor BP,Vitals.EEG,CT Brain may be helpful in ber case.Counselling should be repetitive.Consult a psychiatrist for further queries and expert management.
