Would Taking Amoxicillin- Clavulanate Cause Swelling Of Tongue?
I have completed a 10 days dose of amoxicillin-clavulanate 500 mg twice/day. My tongue is now swollen and seems to be splitting in middle with complete raw areas of my tongue spreading outward and now toward the tip of my tongue. I had strep and severe coughing and was treated with this amoxicillin. My throat is also still extremely red and tongue burns. It is saturday and doctor that treated me are closed. I just a bit concerned
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The swelling over the tongue can be secondary to allergic reaction to any food or insect bite resulting in angioedema. It is not due to amoxicillin-clavulnate. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. Mean while you can use cetrizine prophylactically. For the burning sensation over the tongue you can use topical anesthetic like lignocaine gel. Do saline gargling. I hope my answer will help you, take care.
