My father was prescribed eptoin for convulsions. He was earlier on tegretal. He's now suffereing from a bad rash and fever from the eptoin. Our doc has replaced eptoin with another anticonvulsant. Is the rrash and fever somethign major to worry about? Or will that go away soon?

HI Thanks for posting your query.
Yes Eptoin can cause rashes and very rarely fever. The rash is very much likely to be caused due to Eptoin. Fever could be due to Eptoin or some other causes . This can be solved by knowing the duration for which he is taking Eptoin . If fever has happen within few weeks of starting then the possibility of Eptoin induced fever is high but if he is taking Eptoin for more than a month then the possibility of Eptoin induced fever is low.
Though Fever and rash is not a matter of concern continuing Eptoin may further exacerbate these so it's better to switch to a different Anticonvulsant.
Hope this information was useful for you.
