X-ray Showing Fibrotic And Hazy Infiltrates In Both Lungs, Unremarkable Aorta And Intact Hemidiaphragms. What Does It Mean?
My Mom's x-ray result indicates " There are fibrotic and hazy infiltrates in both upper lung zones. The heart is not enlarge, Aorta is unremarkable. Both costophrenic sulci, hemidiaphragms and visual bones are intact." Can someone please tell me what it means? And if it's not too much to ask, please also give me information on what can help her. She's been coughing for about 3 weeks now, and it's mostly happening at night. I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you
Hi just.me.lexy,
Thanks for visiting HCM.
Fibrotic and hazy infiltrates on both upper lung zones is usually found due to healed lesion like that of tuberculosis. Hazyness may signify active disease and should be looked in accordance with symptoms like cough of any type, bloody sputum, loss of weight, evening rise of temperature, night sweats etc. I advise you to go for sputum for acid fast bacilli examination which is readily available at designated microscopy centres.
The report reading ''The heart is not enlarge, Aorta is unremarkable. Both costophrenic sulci, hemidiaphragms and visual bones are intact'' just say about normal findings on chest xray.
Now regarding prolonged cough. It can be caused by various reasons like asthma, pulmonary edema, eosinophilic bronchitis, acid reflux disease, chronic rhinosinusitis etc. The differential diagnosis is narrowed down on the basis of clinical history and examinations.
You must visit a pulmonologist to get your mother examined properly ang to get a simple breath test called spirometry done.
The haziness in upper zones is the only thing drawing attention...
The rest is normal.../ unremarkable
The commonest cause for this Pulmonary Tuberculosis
Your mother should be seen by a lung specialist (Pulmonologist) / She will need a battery of tests to for further assessment and assistance...
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
