X-ray Shows Unhealed Break In Elbow After Cast For A Month. Suggested Exercising The Arm When Not In Splint. Unable To Straighten Arm. Corrective Surgery Required?
7 weeks ago I fell on the ice & broke my elbow. I was put in a cast for 4 weeks. Xray @ 4 weeks showed break had not healed. I am now in a splint except for when I am showering. Dr told me to exercise the arm when out of the splint. I am concerned because I am unable to straighten my arm now. Will this improve or am I looking at corrective surgery?
Hello
As your elbow joint was in plaster cast , due to the cast your joint was immobile for 4 week, and due to this immobility usually muscles of that part get stiffed.
Due to this stffness of joint muscle movement is restricted, but slowly slowly with in 2 to 3 week it will come back in normal condition .
usually it doesnt need any corrective surgery .
If there is permanent stiffness corrective surgery may requre. so you will have to wait now.
ok
take care
