respected Dr., one of my familiar boy age about 25 yrs is deaf completely and dumb. He has good health and smart in looking. Is there is any treatment for him, can he be cured. He is not dumb by birth but may be suffered since early childhood. please help me sir.
I can understand your concern about deaf and dumb. Unfortunately unless our brain receives signal in terms of sound it cannot develop speech and language. This is the reason why we stress that hearing loss must be corrected as soon as possible so that the speech can be salvaged to some extent. This is best if corrected before the age of five years after which the brain develops a condition called the plasticity.
In any case you must get him evaluated by an ENT so that a proper audiometry can be done and at least some hearing can be salvaged. He can also be counselled for cochlear implantation which can try to give him some hearing albeit electronic. You can get back to me or any ENT surgeon on this
hope this helps
