How Will Pao Surgery Effect Pregnancy ?

I have had open hip surgery in April due to hip dysplasia. I started having lots of pain again and after lots of exams and consideration with my ortho surgeon I am now facing a total hip replacement or pao surgery. Now, I jus found out I am three weeks pregnant...can I get surgery done now? I won't be able to walk otherwise...

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

You cannot have hip surgery during the pregnancy. While the risks are very low during the pregnancy of general anesthetic, they are not zero. Ideally this surgery would have to wait until after you deliver. The other issue is that you might need a C-section if there are significant mobility issues or pain at the hip joint. Talk to your OB/GYN!

I hope that this helps and good luck!
