Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
she isn t fully anorexic but she s really cutting things out of her diet more and more, first it was stop eating junk foods and pop, and next it was go vegan, and now she just stopped eating completely with the exception of a few grapes here and there to stop people from thinking she s anorexic. she doesn t want help, and i dont want to have to talk to her abot it, but i just want to know some facts
If she is overweight and thinks that not eating is going to help her lose weight than she is wrong. When you do not eat it slows down your metabolism (in other words your ability to burn sugars & fats). The best thing you can do is suggest a healthy diet( i.e. three meals a day with protein and lost of fruits and veggies- avoid food with refine sugar and high fats, or anything that states hydrogenated) and an exercise plan, maybe three a week to start off with (cardio & lifting weights are important to build muscle which burns fat).
If it turns out to be an eating disorder, coming from experience, it is really hard for you to do much besides being supportive and encouraging/trying to get help for her. Eating disorders are often based on psychological issues therefore when she sees herself her body image is possibly bigger or distorted to her than it actually is. She can't see what other people see, therefore professional help is probably the best thing for her. I hope this helped a little bit and I hope your friend is okay.
Do not assume her to be anorexic, If she is doing that to lose weight in case she is over weight it is good. Is it not? why do you stop her. If she really starts showing symptoms then persuade her to a psychiatrist.
since you are her friend then you know that something is up and your worried about her, tell her parents. she'll hate you but you may just save her life.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Akshith's Response
hi,
to call a person anorexic outright would be wrong,
your friend if she is overweight or obese might be thinkin this is easiest way of losing weight as a friend since you are concerned about her. i would suggest you sit and talk to her tell her about having a proper diet and workout to lose weight. if she stops eating completely she will end up getting sick.
take care.
