Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes this is very normal and is to be expected. You have just undergone a major procedure. It can be quite a long recovery period following a bypass- weeks rather than days. For the first three to six weeks following a bypass you will be tired and will need quite a bit of support, but after six weeks you should be well on the road to recovery and by three months full health is usually regained. It can vary, nothing is really textbook.
Common side effects after a CABG that you should be aware of are loss of appetite, constipation, swelling (where the blood vessel graft was removed), feeling tired, sleeping difficulties and muscle pain or back pain. You may feel a bit down in the dumps after the bypass, this is quite normal and common. There will be good and bad days. Side effects do not usually last more than 4 weeks.
In your own pace, try and be as active as possible (don't over do it though, you need to build up strength gradually). You must at first avoid any strenuous activities. Try walking around- even if just indoors. Just give it time, you will feel better.
