I ve been off the depo for two months. I had my period a couple of weeks after missing my next shot. One month later I started having pregnancy symptoms and I ve missed my current period but the pregnancy test came back negative. Could I still be pregnant, is there something wrong with my body, or is the depo still in my system?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your query. Return of fertility takes 9-10 months after last injection of depot provera. By 18 weeks of withdrawal, the fertility returns to it's original level. I feel the delay in periods/ symptoms you have seem to be withdrawal symptoms of the hormone. I would advise to trust blood HCG test for diagnosing/excluding pregnancy in such a case. Thanks.
