What Should I Do About Severe Cough With Blood In Phlegm, Night Sweats, And Rattling Lungs?
I have had a severe cough for over two weeks. The usual cough medicines do not help, although paracetamol seems to. It may have been initially caused by the inhalation of dust from a vent in an old building I was surveying. I cough up phlegm, and today it had blood in it, which was also in the mucus from blowing my nose. I had a severe sore throat, which is not too bad today. I have night sweats, which leaves the bed more damp than wet. I had a shivering fit when I went to bed a couple of days ago, which lasted ten mlnutes. Lateral flow tests for COVID are negative. My lungs rattle when breathing.
Since your lungs rattle when breathing, and because you have been suffering from 2 weeks, get clinically examined by a GP. Get sputum examination, X-ray PNS, X-ray lungs and required imaging tests done. You will be referred to an ENT for throat examination if required. In the meantime, do not blow your nose too hard. Take antihistamine at bedtime, once daily for five days for relieve from cough.
Gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times day. Take liquid food. Sip water throughout the day. You can keep cough lozenges in your mouth. If your reports show infection in the lungs, you will be treated with antibiotics. Avoid staying in dusty places. Allergy to dust, pollen, animal dander, paint, etc., can cause such symptoms.
Do not smoke, do not take alcohol, stay away from addiction of any kind. Night sweats are commonly caused by anxiety and stress, underlying medical condition, infection, etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
