What Would The Treatment Options Be For An Avulsion Fracture In My Finger?
I found out I have an avulsion fracture in my finger. I am going to a hand specialist later this week, but what would the treatment options be? Just a splint? Because my splint isn’t really working for me, it keeps moving and I keep reinjuring my finger. Could they do a cast or not?
If your finger looks swollen and is painful, do not strain it. Keep it at rest. Try not to move the finger or the thumb. Do not let it get hurt again. You can take naproxen or acetaminophen, one stat after food. Treatment will depend on the type, location and the severity of the fracture. In case of stable fracture, your orthopedist will splint your injured finger or may tape it to the finger next to it.
The splint keeps your finger straight and protects it while it heals. It is commonly removed after 3-4 weeks. In case of unstable fracture, your treating doctor may immobilize your finger with a splint after aligning the fragments of the fracture. Yes, your orthopedist can put your finger on a cast if required. He can recommend surgery in case of multiple fractures and when nerves are damaged.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
