Hi Marty, Lactic acidosis is a condition in which a particular form of acid accumulates in the blood making it very acidic. This happens when patient has severe infection/ sepsis; or patient with kidney failure takes metformin tablets.
In your case the doctor changed your diabetes drug because, janumet has a compound called sitagliptin which has been associated with pancreatitis in studies. Hence he stopped the combination janumet and put you only on metformin with glipizide. As long as your kidneys are normal you need not worry about lactic acidosis.
