My Grandmother Is Diagnosied Diabetes

can anyone tell me that how the diabetes can be founded out. My grandmother is diagnosed diabetes, she is now 60 years and I have heard the doctor saying to my mother that there are chances that now the disease can run in your family. I am very much upset because my grand mother is diagnosed and secondly i may also contract the disease. I am very close to my current boyfriend and have sex with him several times. Is it possible that he may also get diabetes. I have heard some persons say that you always have the genes for the diabetes but it is only in the old age when you will start upon the disease. Plz help me I am very much tensed.

Diabetes does not transmit through sex. It does not spread, mind you. Can be diagnosed with the help of a blood test. Get it done every 3 months. That would be fine.

HI, diabtes is not spread by having sex. It is a disorders where insulin is less in the body. If you have increased hunger, increased thirst, increase urination, if your wounds are not healing then you need to think of diabetes. You need to get a blood sugar tested to know whthere you have diabtes. Fastingblood sugar is ideal. If any body in your family like mother, father, grand mothere or anyone had dibetes you are more likley get it also. Get your sugars checked to know

hi Madhun here, diabetes runs in family, but its not sexually transmitted. even my grandama has diabetes she on insulin now. she was detected late, tablets did not respond to her so the doc added her insulin. go for blood test in empty stomach then get the blood test done, have your break fast then they will draw the blood for sugar testing once more. yes if father or mother is diabetic then the same genes passes in you also, so you are at risk for diabetes. if you have sex with your boy friend diabetes does not spread only sexual disease like HIV spreads. so not to worry your boy friend will not get diabetes. but need to worry about you grandma. let god bless her

General & Family Physician Dr. Sourav Ganguly's  Response
HI bart.

THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION.

REMEMBER ONE THING CLEARLY THAT DIABETES IS A GENETIC DISEASE THAT MEANS IT IS CARRIED THROUGH GENE BUT IT IS POLYGENIC THAT MEANS MUTIFACRS CAN CAUSE DIABETES IN A GENETICALLY PREDISPOSE PERSON.MEARLY CARING A GENE DOESNT MEAN THAT HE WILL BE AFFECTED BY DIABETES.SO YOUR BOYFRIEND DONT HAVE A CHANCE TO GET DIABETES IF OTHER PREDISPOSING FACTORS ARE ABSENT.

REGARDING DETECTION YOU HAVE TO DO A YEARLY FASTING BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL THAT CAN DETECT WHEN YOU WILL DIABETEC.

PLEASE DONT BE SO PANIC.

THANK
DR SOURAV GANGULY
