What is Docosanol?

Docosanol also known as behenyl alcohol is a saturated fatty acid alcohol used as emollient, emulsifier and thickener in cosmetics and nutritional supplement. Recently it is approved as anti viral agent for reducing the duration of cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus.
