Floaters are tiny cobwebs or specks which float in the field of vision. It mainly occurs as age related changes in the vitreous. These floaters are formed when the jelly like substance inside the eye becomes more liquid.

As you become older the jelly like material called vitreous becomes more liquid. Then the collagen fibers in the vitreous tend to clump together. These bits of tiny debris appear like shadows on the retina.

Floaters are suspended in the gel like substance called vitreous.
