16 Week Pregnant. Having Cold, Severe Pain In Throat With Yellow Sputum. Is It Safe To Take Augmentation?

Thanks for writing to us.
Cold and cough in pregnancy are not worrisome in pregnancy provided you do not have fever. During pregnancy your immune system is lowered slightly, to stop your body from rejecting your unborn baby. This can make you more vulnerable to infections, such as cough, colds and flu.
Augmentin is safe in pregnancy. It belongs to penicillin group and are the antibiotic of choice in pregnancy. The dose you are taking is the recommended dose of Augmentin to treat infections and it has to be taken in the same dose to be effective. This dose wont pose any harm to your baby.
Avoid unnecessary anti inflammatory agents like brufen.
Paracetamol is safe and can be used if you also have fever.
Also to improve your cough keep doing warm saline gargles. Warm, salt-water gargles draw out the mucus and reduce the painful swelling in the throat. Salt also quells the itching sensation in the throat. Gargles with warm water mixed with lemon juice and honey are equally effective.
You can suck a slice of lemon with salt and black pepper on it to reduce the intensity of cough. Inhaling steam vapours through a humidifier or from a pot of boiling water helps loosen the mucus and soothes an irritated throat.
You can help boost your immune system by eating a healthy diet, including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. These contain antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin C, which help to fight infections. Take adequate rest and avoid stress to ensure good pregnancy outcome.
You are welcome for further queries if any.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Take care.
