HPV vaccination is recommended to protect from certain types of Cervical cancer, Genital warts etc. It is highly effective against cervical cancer, caused by above 2 types. Near about 30% of cervical cancers will not be prevented by the vaccines. Recent studies show that it will give life time protection on completed vaccine series.
Yes, the vaccine has age restriction. This can only be taken by 9 to 26 years age group of females. It is not recommended over 26 years age women. According to CDC, it is safe and effective on particular age group only. However, it does not protect HPV related diseases which is already present in the individual's body.
In addition, this vaccine is not for HPV cure. Every sexually active women needs to undergo periodic health check up along with pap smear test as a screening for cervical cancer.
