Hi, I made an appointment with my gynecologist, but I m not sure whether I should move the appointment. The appointment will be on a Monday and I usually start my period on a Tuesday, which will be this same week. Will it be okay to see the doctor and get a pap smear or should I rather reschedule? I am on birth control so maybe I can skip my period one month and then I will see the doctor just after my period ended... Do you have any advice for me? Thank you.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Pap smear is a diagnostic test for cytological test of cervix. Suitable time for the test is after at least 5 days of stopping menstruation. You should therefore avoid pap smear test during periods.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
