7 Year Child Having Nasal Blockage. Getting Red Eyes And Having Asthma. Should Seroflo Be Given?
Hi
Thanks for the query
You daughter is suffering from Allergic rhinitis as well as Asthma.
Allergic rhinitis is a common condition characterised by an immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated inflammation of the nasal mucosa following exposure to allergens. It is characterized by sneezing, nasal discharge and nasal congestion.
During allergic rhinitis there is inflammation of the nasal mucosa causing blockage of the sinus openings leading to accumulation of the nasal secretions in the sinus. Also, there is trickling of the nasal secretions behind the throat causing throat discomfort and cough.
You can definitely try with Seroflo (Fluticasone + Salmeterol). Fluticasone is a steroid with anti-inflammatory component, while salmeterol treats constriction of the airways. The combination helps in relieving the symptoms of cough, wheezing and nasal stuffiness.
The common triggerers of allergy are the pollen, dust, fumes, coils smoke, etc. The bitter truth is, there is no cure for allergy, and only the preventive measures when followed can get rid of allergy.
Preventive measures such as avoiding the triggering allergens such as dust, smoke, strong perfumes and changing the pillow cover every night before going to bed can reduce the further attacks. Also, avoid making her sleep directly under the fan or in front of the Air conditioner.
Try using saline nasal spray 3-4 times a day, encourage your child to drink plenty of warm water and finally, make her do steam inhalation when nasal stuffiness is present.
Hope I have answered your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.

I have a history of asthma too but its not so bad.
how long (time period) should seroflo 100mcg 2puffs twice a day continue?
Should I discontinue all other medicines like montelukast, while starting seroflo??.
Is singulair brand better for some patients than Montelukast?
Should I give her Amla Juice for Vit C? Any food restrictions?
Hi
Thanks for writing back
Q: How long (time period) should seroflo 100mcg 2puffs twice a day continue?
A: For children 4 to 11 years old the recommended treatment is one inhalation of 100/50 mcg twice daily for 8 weeks. For adults, you can use 2puffs twice a day for 8 weeks.
Q: Should I discontinue all other medicines like montelukast, while starting seroflo?
A: Initially, try using seroflo without montelukast and if the situation warrants, you can use it.
Q: Is singulair brand better for some patients than montelukast?
A: Singulair is the most preferred band.
Q: Should I give her Amla Juice for Vit C? Any food restrictions?
A: If she is not allergic to citrus fruits or those containing Vitamin C, you can definitely use it. There are no food restrictions, if you discover your child is allergic to a particular type of food, please avoid it.
I wish her good health.
