Can Taking Adderall Cause Scalp Psoriasis?

Ok, I have been taking adderall for at least 15 years, I am 29 years old. I have been experiencing a type of scalp psoriasis for at least 5 years, i break out into small hives around certain animals that I am allergic to, I break out into quarter size hives if I am exposed to the cold, under 40 degrees, it takes around 10 mins of exposure. My sinuses will freeze, if I am in the cold for more than 30 mins or a room, producing serious ac. My hives did not start until 4 or five years ago and my rhinitis did not start until 7 or 8 years ago. My allergeries to just about everything pertaining to the out doors or a varity of animals have just gotten to be obnoxious but I can deal with the allergies. The psoriasis has gotten to be out of control and now i have a rash that mimics a red burn around the hairline of my forehead. This has happened before, maybe every month, since September, I am in school and I have a lot on my plate, so of course I stress out. But this burn comes on so fast! I know it has to be related to the adderall, I have been reading so much about skin rashes and adderall. Also, I had a, I want to say a patch of psoriasis on my upper back, but it never bled, just rapidly produced skin cells over night, which last around a year. I also have asthma, but very much under control. I do not come frome a family of skin problems, or acne. I just want to know what could be the problem. thanks

Hi,

Psoriasis is caused by auto-immune issues and is not caused by taking Adderall or any other medications. There is a large genetic component to psoriasis, but there are environmental factors as well. Since you also have allergies and hives, this means your immune system is being overly active.

You can start with topical Clobetasol for your psoriasis. This is a very strong topical steroid. Otherwise there are other treatments including new oral medications and UV therapy. Your primary care doctor (GP) or a dermatologist would be the first person to see.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
