Are SIBO And Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis Related?
Question: Are SIBO and eosinophilic gastroenteritis related?
Dear XXXXXX,
Thanks for contacting Healthcare Magic.
Full form of SIBO is Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. This essentially means number of bacteria in small intestine proliferate. SIBO can be associated with variety of small intestinal conditions, those resulting in slowing of intestinal movements, stasis of small bowel contents, obstruction of small bowel and also in conditions associated with reduced immunity.
Eosinophilic gastroenteritis can involve small intestines and can be associated with motility disorders of small intestine. Hence SIBO can occur in patients with eosinophilic gastroenteritis.
I hope this answers your query. If you have any other question you can write back again.
Best wishes,
Dr Dinesh Singal
