Are Acne, Cough And Sore Throat Signs Of Measles?

Question: I think my daughter may have the measles. But I thought she had all her shots when she was young she is 15 now. The symptons are almost identical, the doctors just call it acne or they do nothing, she has had a cough, strep throut constantly

Let me specifically ask you how long she has been having the rashes and whether it has been associated with fever, if so, which started first, the fever or the rashes? There are a number of viral infections where rashes are present along with fever and they are not necessarily measles. And if no fever is present and if the rashes have not affected the entire body, the doctors might be correct in identifying them as acne.

Another possibility to consider is that use of amoxycillin in certain viral infections (as in case of Epstein Barr virus) can give rise to rashes.

The sore throat and cough are probably unrelated. Once again these too are frequently caused due to viral infections. Antibiotics are ineffective and all you need to do is to make her gurgle with lukewarm water several times a day. Some children might be more prone to such infections but the propensity comes down with time.
