Posted on Thu, 8 Oct 2015
Question: I noticed Protein in urine (1+) while doing RFT. Then as per my physician, I consulted nephrologists.he asked to do scan of kidney which reported 16 mm cyst in upper pole of right kidney. Is protein in urine n cyst related to each other? Do I need to worry?

Brief Answer:
Solitary cyst in kidney is congenital benign cyst and nothing to be worried

Detailed Answer:

Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been detected to have protein 1 + in your urine and a solitary cyst of a size of 16 mm in your Rt kidney .

The solitary cyst in kidney is always a benign cyst which is congenital in origin and can be considered as an accidental findings .
.
We find such cysts being detected in many individuals when Ultrasound Scanning is done as routine protocol for some other illness .

It does not require any active intervention or treatment and nothing to be worried about it..

As regards to get one + protein in urine analysis has no significance and can be considered as normal .It is not due to cyst that you have .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks for providing significant information about cyst. Is there any reason behind 1+ protein. Because it is there when I tested twice with two month gap. Any medicine need to be taken for this or just observation is enough.

Hello sir,

I did 24 hr protein and creatinine test. Result are as follow:

Urine protein - 140 mg/24hr
Serum creatinine - 0.9 mg/dl
Creatine clearance - 117.45 ml/min.

The report seems to be normal. But I feel burning sensation while passing urine( mostly at end). Does it require any medication?

Thanks, XXXXXXX

Thanks for follow up.
Your blood reports are within normal range and not to be worries about .

Mild pain at the end of urination may be due to mild inflammation of urinary meatus
Take Nitrofurantoin with urine alkalizer twice daily .
Thanks and Regards.
