Are Decreased Social-emotional Maturity, Poor Memory And Blurred Vision Symptoms Of Head Injury?
Question: Hello, My daughter had an accident in July 2013 in a zorb ball. The straps broke and she rolled around inside. She has suffered the following since it happened
Cognitive assessment note a 40 point drop in IQ performance
She now presents with significant learning difficulties
Significant memory issues
Marked decrease in social and emotional maturity
Blurred vision
Regular headaches and dizziness
Absences observed during the day- zoning out , switching off
Episodes of laughing for no reason
Increased and marked hand movements and fidgety behavior
Decline in Motor skills since her accident which had improved with intervention pre accident

The features suggested by you are indicative of multiple seizures type.
Association with head injury is less likely but neuroimaging of brain preferably epilepsy protocol MRI is required.
Possibility of childhood absence epilepsy should be considered and treatment (valproate or ethosuximide) should be started.
If the symptoms and cognitive decline are progressive with visual involvement then possibility of progressive myoclonic epilepsy should be evaluated.
She requires full neurological assessment with investigations at a good neuro centre.

My concern is that she never suffered any of these issues prior to the accident and had been seen by a neurologist when she was 4 who diagnosed her with DCD .
She had evaluated her and had no cause for concern regarding any other issues.
Can myoclonic epilepsy just start and come out of the blue at any age or could a trauma to the head have caused all this .
Her IQ dropped 40 points following the accident and all these difficulties started then. XXXXXXX does not really gave s good neurological centre
Could you recommend one in UK or possibly anywhere else
