Are Foot Infections Common In Diabetic Patients?

My father is 60 years old and he is diabetic. He got a wound in his leg near his little finger and it is stagnant in size.
It is not growing. It looks white. But, from few days pus is coming from it. Doctor advised for dressing. After dressing, lot of pus comes out and the bandage itself looks brown. The pus is like water. My father has pain most of the time and he has lot of discomfort because of this. Kindly, let me know if this wound heals. Also, any complications involved in this.
He has brought down his sugar level to a great extent. Currently, FBS is 170 mg/dl and PPBS is 258 mg/dl.
Please kindly let me know if anything serious.
Thank you,
Concerned daughter

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Infection in toes is common in diabetic patients as sugars are high which is called as diabetic foot.
It is a good thing that his sugars have come down but they are still high and need to lower down more.
Any infection with pus in body should be treated aggressively.
Regular dressings and antibiotics are main part of treatment.
I hope your doctor must have put him up on antibiotics for the infection. Dressing should be done on regular basis and should not be discontinued.
These wounds do heal with proper above treatment. Complications if not treated can occur where removal of the finger will be required. But in your case as he is getting treated, I think it will get better.
Also, he needs to keep his toes clean and dry as these are the commonest place to catch up infections.
So, do not worry. The pus will drain until the active infection is settled with right and good amount of antibiotics and regular dressings. So follow up with your doctor as advised.
I hope I have answered your query well. If you have any more question kindly write back to me, will be happy to help you out.
Thank you
