Are Hemorrhoids Linked To Poor Functioning Of Liver?
Question: Hi Dr. Kini,
You asked me how i was doing.I just had my mannometry and ph test this week. The results wil go to my gastroenterologist but the technician who performed the test confirmed that i have acid reflux going into my esophagus about 1.5-2 hours after each meal. Now we have to see if the higher dose of pills will heal my espophagitis and LPR.I am currently taking nexium in the morning and xantac after lunch and dinner.Have not seen a lot of progress but it is not getting worse and my energy levels are better. One issue that i have is you mentioned that PPI don't affect liver function. How come with my much improved lighter diet my hemorroids have flared up again.I thought hemorroids were linked to a poor functioning liver...After reading your previous comments am i bound to lose my stomach if i stay on ppi's longer?
Thanks again.Look forward to your feedback but i am expecting it's still free.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for updating me.
I have told you earlier that hemorrhoids are not linked to poor functioning of liver. They are linked to altered bowel habits especially constipation.
As I told you PPI are quite safe and rarely causes serious side effects. I have told you earlier that headache and diarrhea are some of the common side effects of taking PPI and in elderly individuals who are on long term PPI, there may be worsening of osteoporosis.
So you can safely take PPI.

What is the recipe to heal gastritis?PPI's again?
Is it a waste of money to continue probiotics supplement while taking antibiotics for prostatitis?Or could that help keep a minimum of good bacteria?
One more question please,
How can we diagnose "harmful bacteria overgrowth" in the gut?Would you see that when performing endoscopy/gastroscopy?Are there solutions to that in traditional medicine or is this just a naturopathic concern?
Can harmful bacteria keep the digestive system from assimilating food properly and turn it into the proper energy?
Thx.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes for healing of gastritis, you have to be on PPI.
Regarding probiotics, I would advice you to take more yogurt which does the same action.
For diagnosing harmful bacterial overgrowth, a stool test, breath test and culture of the small bowel fluid aspirated during endoscopy may be done. Antibiotics and probiotics are the treatment for it.
Yes harmful bacteria affect digestion causing maldigestion/malabsorption and as a result of it various signs and sypmptoms of nutritional deficiency occurs.
