Are Intermittent Numbness On Thighs And Mild Throat Pain Suggestive Of STD?
How are you, I was in touch with you 4 months back.
I just debreif the case....
I had protected intercourse with 3 girls in 2days and unprotected oral sex both receiving and giving with CSW in Germany. This was 6 months back.
Initially I got tested for HIV and STD at 3 weeks of exposure (HIV 4th Generation, Syphilis, Chlyamdia, HSV 1 and 2 ) All negative except HSV IGG was postive.
Again after 6 weeks of Exposure I got tested for HIV PCR RNA test, but they gave me the test report within a single day and which was negative (Can this report be trusted?)
Again after 8 weeks I got tested for 4th Generation HIV duo test which was negative.
Again after 14 weeks I got tested for HIV 4th Generation and STD test ( All negative including Hepatitis B and C also negative). Also got tested for HIV Western blot test which was negative.
During this period since begining I was having mild throat pain and it persisted till today, I met ENT doctor 2 months back and i did not tell about this exposure and he suggested may be GERD and I also have a Gastric problem and using the medicine since 2 months. Also my neck glands were also paining during this time since begining.
I have mild swelling under arm pit since 3 months, but no lump. I have that feeling when I close my hands something under my armpit feeling. Intermittent pain.
Also intermittent numbness on thighs and mild throat pain.
I am worried of sero conversion, though tests are negative (as the window period is 3 months), but is there a chance of late sero conversion (By the way I am a healthy person only).
Do I need to get tested again?
Also I noticed 6 months back after the exposure mild yeast infection on my head of penis, but not sure it could be before exposure too. It is still there.
All these are making me worried.
Can you please advise.
Thanks.
Your HIV results are conclusive and confirmatory. No need for further test
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again to HCM.
It is my pleasure to answer to your questions.
It is possible to have HIV PCR RNA test within a day and it is reliable, if the laboratory is in your city.(bleeding and testing point are same).
4th generation HIV test is highly reliable up to more than 99% 12 weeks after the risk activity. You had this test 14 weeks after the exposure and got a negative report. Negative western blot test by this time made the reliability to 100%. So your symptoms are not at all related to HIV.
You need no further test for HIV with regards to your exposure 6 months back.
Yest infection of penis can occur to anybody without HIV, if the partner had yeast infection. Not to worry any more about HIV and consult your physician for the present symptoms and get well.

Thank you for the reply.
What could be the reason for swelling for underarm pit both sides. There is no lump, I tried to check, it is skinny layer and no lump found. But when I press hard it pains, and some times there is intermittent pain without swelling.
I am using Nexium 500 40mg twice a day since 45 days for GERD, as throat irritation is persisting since the exposure.
After a month it was ok, but doctor suggested for one more month. But since last couple of days mild throat irritation started again.
Also tingling sensation in groin area and thighs since 3 months but intermittent.
Can the seroconversion take 6 months?
I did the tests in Lalpath lab , SRL diagnostics & Dr.Dangs Lab in XXXXXXX Are they reliable or due to legal issue they report only negative.
These symptoms are killing me, and really afraid to go to a doctor and tell the whole episode again.
Regarding Yeast infection, I noticed it within 3- 4 days of exposure, might be I have before the exposure itself but not sure. There is mild rash on the head of Penis like fungi.
Please suggest.
Thanks
All your problems are not related to HIV and easily treatable.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Your axillary swelling may be due to lymph node enlargement which you could not be able to appreciate whereas a physician could do easily. The treating physician has to find the cause of swelling.
Recurrence of sore throat is not uncommon and your physician once again can take care of this also. Tingling sensation over groin and thigh also a common problem. Rule out a fungal infection or Jock itch.
Sero-conversion after six months is possible only if you are on immuno-suppressive drugs (Like steroids) or post exposure prophylaxis (ART). Nexium 500 is not an immuno suppressive drug. Otherwise it is unlikely.
Lal path lab and SRL Ranbaxy are best labs of those kind. I have no idea about Dr Dongs lab.
Yeast infection of penis is easily treatable. Your sex partner has also to be treated for yeast simultaneously to achieve a total cure.

Thank you for your reply.
I had some symptoms of mild throat and axillary swelling pain and thought it will go on its own and was not thinking about it. Even the mild yeast infection on the head of penis as well ignored.
But after 6 months when still the axillary swelling was there and increased little bit, I was getting worried since a week. I noticed no lump and tingling sensation on groin and thighs. these symptoms forced me to think and raised some doubts on HIV tests accuracy and late sero conversion after 6 months and hence approached you to share my problem and have some clarity on it whether further testing is necessary or my apprehensions are 100% wrong.
Also I wanted your advise on meeting a physician and tell only about the current symptoms?
If I start explaining since beginning, then I would be back to square one. so thought based on your advise If I rule out 100% HIV and discuss only current symptoms.
What do you advise?
Thanks for your understanding.
You are free from HIV and symptoms are not related to HIV.
Detailed Answer:
HI,
Welcome back.
HIV ruled out for you with regards to your exposure 6 months back.
You can tell him/her about the present complaint alone. If necessary he/she will take a fine needle aspiration test from the swelling and will confirm the diagnosis. Then treatment will cure your problem totally. No more HIV test is necessary for you.
Dr S.Murugan
A small correction, the Hiv test done was 14 weeks post exposure not after 6 months.
Still 100% conclusive??
Thanks
It is conclusive that you are free from HIV 1 and 2
Detailed Answer:
HI,
Welcome back.
Two nonreactive test 12 weeks after the exposure confirmed that you are free from HIV 1 and 2 to the extent of 100%. It is very much conclusive.
Dr S.Murugan
Thanks doctor for your 100% confirmation that it is not due to HIV.
What could be the possible reasons for axillary swelling, mainly on the left hand side. When I press the swelled area there is no pain but sorrounding area has some pain as stiff muscles. I had stiff muscles pain under the arm for both hands and had stiff neck glands pain.
The axillary swelling is since 2 months, is this due to viral or bacterial infection? or any other reason.
I never had such symptoms before, hence got the doubt of HIV.
Please advise.
Consult a surgeon and get well soon
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Without examination, it is very difficult to give any opinion on your problem. It may not be related to lymph nodes. Swelling could be originated from muscle or it can be a cold abcess. Consult a surgical specialist and follow his advice. You will be alright soon.
