Are Negative HIV 4th Generation DUO Test Report 29 Days After Exposure Conclusive?
You are free from HIV 1 infection beyond any doubt.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Oral sex carries a low risk for HIV as per CDC, XXXXXXX when compared to certain high risk activities in this order: Blood transfusion, IV Drug abuse with sharing of needles, Needle prick injury, anal sex and vaginal sex (http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/risk/estimates/riskbehaviors.html).
Even though HIV RNA PCR can pick up the infection as early as 7 days after the risk activity, but considered more conclusive after 3-4 weeks.
HIV 4th generation DUO test has two parts. Antigen detecting part and an antibody detecting part. Antibodies will appear in the presence of an infection only after 6-8 weeks or delayed up to 12 weeks after the exposure. But the antigen detection part of this test by 29 days is highly reliable. At the same time antigen detection can detect only HIV 1 infection and not HIV 2 infection whereas Antibody part can detect both HIV 1 and 2. Similarly HIV RNA PCR also can detect HIV 1 infection only. Separate HIV 2 RNA PCR is available. In that case you have to take up two separate tests have to be taken.
Throughout the world except certain parts of XXXXXXX HIV 1 is common up to the extent of more than 99% and HIV 2 prevalence is less than 0.5%.

HIV 2 risk through oral sex is negligible.

Hi,
Welcome back.
HIV 2 risk through oral sex is negligible.
If you have ruled out the rarest possibility of HIV 2 before becoming sexually active, you will feel comfortable in future. Otherwise small illness also would likely be disturbing your mind.
