Question: Hi Doctor, I was on XXXXXXX 25 mg for last one year. 3 months back I moved to XXXXXXX 20 mg and last 20 days I'm on XXXXXXX 10mg. From yesterday I completed stopped. But from today onwards I'm not feeling great like having some kind of numbness feeling in my head and overall laziness and no sleep.

Is this with drawl symptoms? Do I need to take care of anything? I used to take Clonizipam .5 mg often.

Can I take Clonizipam .5 mg now? If the symptoms continue should I start Pari10mg again?

Brief Answer:
Start with 5 mg and stop after 15 days

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Health care magic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to make it clear that the current symptoms are indicative of paroxetine withdrawal. This is possible because stoppage of 10 mg in a day is never advocated for a person who used it for long time. In addition presence of symptoms within 48 hours clearly points that it is due to paroxetine withdrawal.

In the current situation please do the following.
1. Start 5 mg of paroxetine and continue for at least two weeks.

2. Use clonazepam 0.5 mg on need basis

3. Take plenty of water

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
Yes you need to break it

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Since there is no 5 mg in the market you need to break 10 mg in half to make it 5 mg for a period of 2 weeks. I do not think you should try without medication as withdrawal symptoms are likely to worsen over next two days and may not be tolerable.

The chances of withdrawal symptoms after 5 mg is very low and there is good possibility of managing them without medication or low dose of clonazepam.

Regarding the duration the withdrawal symptoms of paroxetimne may last for one to three months although majority of patients rep[ort no symptoms after period of two weeks.

I hope this helps you further.

Brief Answer:
It may but uncommon

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

As stated above the maximum duration of withdrawal symptoms is three months after use of paroxetine for one year. It mean there is possibility of having continued withdrawal symptoms for a duration of three months. The symptoms will be similar to today although intensity will decrease over time.

Having said this most patients (say 95%) have no symptoms after two weeks from discontinuation of paroxetine.

I mean to say that there is risk but the possibility of happening with you is very low.

I hope this assists you further.
Thanks and regards.
