Are Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplements Advisable For IgA Nephropathy?
Question: About 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with igA Nephropathy. I do not have any symptoms, except for occasional protein in urine, which is how it was originally found after biopsy. Recently, a new doctor suggested that I try 12 grams of Omega 3, but it's making me gain weight. He said it wasn't necessary, but there was data to support it may help prolong kidney functioning. Is there anything else I can try besides that? That's 12 horse pills a day that make me gain weight! Special diet maybe?
Brief Answer:
Take sea fish twice a week
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Omega 3 fatty acids are beneficial overall but rather than procuring them from tablets and supplements it would perhaps be a better idea to take sea fish twice a week. I would insist you to drop the supplements and adopt this dietary change. I would also insist you to walk regularly in the morning. No other interventions suggested.
Let me know if I could help further.
