Are Palpitations After Starting Bupropion HCL Normal?
Question: Hello, I have recently started on bupropion HCL SR 100mg daily depression. I am feeling a little racy and I was wondering if this is normal. This is my fifth day taking it. I have read from other peoples reviews that they felt racy on generic, but when switched to Wellbutrin felt better
Brief Answer:
it is a common side effect
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Wellbutrin or its generic can both make you feel a little racy. In fact they can cause some anxiety in some patients.
It is a great drug for depression but not good for anxiety or bipolar disorder.
If you begin to feel too racy then call the provider right away to get their advice about whether or not to stop it.
If you have trouble sleeping, this could also be from the wellbutrin.
I wish you the best.
Let me know if you have other questions.

I do feel racy right after I take, it does ware off as the day goes on, but don't like the feeling. I also get a headache after I take it and some diarrhea. I believe I have depression and some anxiety. What medication would you recommend for this.
Brief Answer:
SSRIs
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the follow up.
For the combination of anxiety and depression the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors usually work best. They are indicated for treatment of both depression and anxiety disorders. Since you have already been on zoloft I suggest that you talk to your prescriber and consider another SSRI like celexa. Another option would be to lower your dose of wellbutrin and add a low dose SSRI to it.
If the SSRIs do not work for you then your prescriber may want to try a mood stabilizer like lamictal, but those tend to have more side effects, so I would try another SSRI first.
I wish you the best,

Brief Answer:
zoloft vs celexa
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the follow up.
Zoloft is older and has more side effects. Both Celexa and zoloft are SSRIs, but celexa is usually better tolerated by most people
