Are Persistent Cramping And Bloating Signs Of Colorectal Cancer?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Mar 2016
Question: I have had cramping and bloating like three weeks out of the month for the last year. over the last four months the symptoms have become worse. My ob/gyne gave me Naprosyn but this did not help. I had an ablation about four years ago. Recently the pain has become so bad that I have missed work and I never miss work. The cramping is what comes first like when you have a menses and then the bloating comes and it last for about two to three weeks. the bloating is bad and goes all the way up into my ribcage bilaterally. I just feel exhausted all the time. I recently seen my gynecologist and he told me I have post ablation syndrome but there is no information out there on this. He has told me the best treatment is surgery and hysterectomy. I have no problem with getting a hysterectomy. My only concern ,,,,the only test they have done is a vaginal ultrasound. I am just worried that something else may be going on. When I asked this he said he did not feel it was anything else because my symptoms are on cycles. I just don't understand how this is causing bloating and the bloating lasting for so long. I have not lost weight. how do I know its not colorectal cancer, stomach caner, etc...

Brief Answer:
Could be Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.

Abdominal cramping and bloating are very unlikely to be related to periods, uterus issues or related gynecological issues.

Your symptoms are classical of Acid reflux that might be associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

However, an Ultrasound whole abdomen should be performed to check out any issues pertaining to gall bladder issues or gynecological issues.

However, IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. So, a normal ultrasound, thyroid profile and blood sugar essentially rules out other possibilities. So, get these tests performed, if not done yet.

I advice following for treatment of Acid reflux or IBS:

1. A proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole and Rabeprazole, which will help in neutralizing any acid if you have in stomach.
2. You should avoid pepper in diet and take soft, bland diet.
3. You can take Smooth Muscle Relaxant like Mebeverine for stomach pain, in case you have.
4. In refractory cases drugs like chlordiazepoxide and clidinium bromide can be used, if the condition is not responding.

As far as colorectal cancer, stomach cancer are suspected, you can simply go for two non invasive tests - Stool for Occult blood and Hemoglobin.
If hemoglobin is low and stool for occult blood is positive, you would require to go for Colonoscopy and Endoscopy.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer:
Post-uterine ablation syndrome best handled by Gynaecologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

For the description of post-uterine ablation syndrome you need to consult a gynecologist.
My specialization allows me to discuss about the abdominal symptoms that you are facing. If you have more queries about it, please proceed with it. Hygienic food and cleaner drinking water does help with some digestion symptoms.
