Are Stitches Better Compared To The Dressings To Quicken The Healing In A Diabetic?

Both her wounds are healing quite well. Could see red mass which according to doctor and my idea is a good sign. She goes for dressing alternate days and collagen powder is applied.
Her sugar under control, on an average between 100-150 mg/dl. Glycomet Gp1 after meals.
She was on antibiotics Zocef twice a day for 12 days after discharge I.e. from 29 mar onwards, followed by 10 days levoday twice a day. Today doctor said augmentin 625 duo for 6 more days. I enquired about the antibiotics but doctor said it is needed. He is changing them as per the culture reports. What is your say on this?
Also he suggested for stitches for quick healing as he was waiting to see red mass. Will the stitches help and better compared to the dressings, and quicken the healing?
Scheduled for her stitches tomorrow afternoon. He said she should not eat or drink 4-5 hours before the sutures and they will give local anesthesia. Do local anesthesia require fasting too?
stitches heal faster
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
If the antibiotics are as per the culture, then you need not worry. In diabetes, infection take longer to subside, as compared to a normal person.
Also, stitches heal the wound faster, by reducing the defect. That defect if left to heal by itself by regular dressing, may take months to heal, plus the need to dress it regularly, and open wounds are more prone to get reinfected, specially in diabetic person. Closing the wound by stitches will save all these.
And yes fasting is not needed for a procedure that is done in local anasethesia, but still patients are called empty stomach because, in case the local anasthetic didn't act properly and a mild sedation is required or a short duration intravenous anesthesia is needed to complete the procedure, then one don't need to postpone the procedure for lack of fasting.
As sometimes, local anaesthesia doesn't act well in presence of infection, as the pH in that tissue is acidic and the drug acts best in basic pH.
Hope, i have been helpful.

Thanks for your valuable advise.
She got 8 stitches on her wound. She was on fasting for nealr 7 hours. After bring home she start loose a bit balance we she was doing something in kitchen. They gave her anesthesia at buttocks on both sides. She is good. Hope this giddiness is not a problem? Can she have the normal food which she was having regularly with the stitches?
Thank you
yes she can
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
The giddiness can be due to hypoglycemia. Give her something sweet to eat. And she can eat everything she was eating before.
But while passing stools, make her sit on a western type toilet seat. As sitting on an indian type may open the stitches. And clean the area properly after passing stools, and if the dressing get wet, it needs to be changed.

She is good. Thanks for your reply.
Doctor check her 8 stitches at the back, no puss and blood oozed out. He gave a postive reply.
But There was another carbuncle wound on her tigh which was quite healed and he said it does not require any stitches, so he did not put any. It was circular around less than 1 cm and 5 mm deep conical in nature. Today when he pressed 2-3 tiny drops of puss came out. Somedays back this wound had healed almost completed and he was putting collagen powder. I have submitted puss samples for sensitivity. Hope this is not serious as the puss as reoccured?
She is on augmentin duo 625 dose post meals.
Her fast sugar level till yesterday was less than 120 but today it was 150. After meals it was nearly 120-140. Is the sugar under control?
Will this sudden puss oozing affect her stitches wound on back, though it looked dried and the skin was joined?
Thank
s
nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Don't worry much about the thigh wound, in diabetes, wound take a little long to heal.
And pus in thigh wound won't affect the healing of back wound.
A little day to day fluctuations in the sugar level is normal. A persistent high level is not.
At present her sugar levels are in control. So maintain it.
The back wound is also healthy. So don't worry much about them.
That thigh wound will also heal, be patient.
