Are The Following Blood Test Reports Normal After Radiation Therapy?

Question: Hi. I just finished radiation for oral cancer 30 days treatment total dose 6000cGy Both sides of the neck and tongue. I just got a blood test report with neutrophils 79.3 derived from WBC histogram normal 40-75% lymphocytes 5.6 normal 20-40%
monocytes 13 Normal 2-10%
Absolute lymphocyte count 0.29 normal 1-3 x10cells/ul
Hemoglobin is 14.8 normal 13-17g/do
Platelet count 233 normal 150-450 x10/ul

Is this to be expected?

I did review your concern.

Lymphocytes are the most susceptible cells to go down after radiotherapy and this is an expected change after radiotherapy. It should rise back to normal levels within 2-3 weeks. The best approach at this moment is to maintain good personal hygiene and take the antibiotics as prescribed by your treating doctor to prevent infections.

This is a expected change and there is nothing much to worry about as of now. If the hemoglobin, platelet counts and total wbc counts falls significantly then action needs to be taken in form of replacement agents or bone marrow stimulating factors.
