Are There Any Interactions Between Virtussin AC And Diazepam?

Question: I gave my husband a 10ml Virtussin AC cough syrup, and a 2.5mg tablet of Diazepam to help him stop coughing and relax and get some sleep. Then realized there may be some interaction. How should I monitor him now?

I can understand your concern.
Virtussin AC contains codeine and guafenesin.
These drugs are not having significant drug interactions with diazepam.
So no need to worry much for any adverse drug interactions.
Just watch for excessive drowsiness and sleepiness. Tell him not to drink or eat anything in supine position.
Tell him to drink plenty of fluids orally and keep himself hydrated. Do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day.
Don't worry, he will be alright.
In future don't give diazepam just for sleeping purpose without doctor 's prescription.
