Can Amitop Be Taken For Osteoarthritis?

Question: my mother is suffering from osteoarthritis.
she is taking some medicines.
1 doc has written a medicine Amitop.
only this medicine gives her relief from pain.
when i checked on internet.. it is anti depressing medicine.
is there any other use of this medicine as well?

In my opinion anti depressants are used in some orthopedic conditions like backache, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia , Radiculopathy etc. Their exact mode of action is not known but they are supposed to help by modifying brain receptors for pain. Since they do not cause any major side effects are not habit forming, they are prescribed,
Apart from being used in depression, amitop is also used in bed wetting and for prevention of migraine.
