Can Amitriptyline, Codeine, Naproxen And Morphine Cause Sedation?
Question: My son XXXX went to A&E last night with severe stomach pains. His LFTs were abnormal. He was given morphine in the ambulance. He also took extra Lansoprazole, amytriptilene, paracetamol, codeine phosphate, and naproxen before calling for help. Today XXXX is extremely drowsy and can barely keep his eyes open. He has often been given morphine in the past without so much reaction. He has recently been taking Buspirone . Please advise.
Brief Answer:
Can be due to multiple medicines
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern for your son.
He has taken multiple medicines which can cause sedaton. Amitryptiline, codeine and naproxen with added morphine can make person drowsy.
One cause of XXXX drowsiness is this. If he is hospitalised and other vital parameters are normal, no need to worry.
Other important possibility is abnormal liver functions. If liver abnormality is severe, excessive urea can affect brain and cause drowsiness. We must rule out this cause. Please tell me detail report of liver function tests.
Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
