Question: My wife have Blood pressure 180/100 about 6 yrs back. That time she is given high dose for 1 week and BP become normal. Before that she had no problem. Since then she used to take starpress XL 25mg tablet daily once. Now, recently we checked Lipid profile - it was showing total Cholestrol 246 and triglyceride 180. Her ECG is normal. And BP was showing 160/100. Then the doctor prescribed 1. Amlopin - m (1 daily) and Roseday -f10 (Daily - 1). Now she is having Leg musle pain in both legs. What is the problem and is it due to side effects of medicine ?

is there any side effects for the medicine amlopin - m (metroprolol 50mg + amlodipine-5mg) for high blood pressure

Brief Answer:
Amlodipine may cause leg cramps and swelling on legs

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I appreciate your concern for your wife.
Amlodipine may cause leg cramps and swelling in legs initially which reduces subsequently on continuation of treatment.
If it's unbearable for her than you may ask her doctor to change it other antihypertensive like ACE inhibitors like ramipril or ARBs like losartan or olmesartan.

Her cholesterol is on higher side but it doesn't require any medicines it can be controlled by diet restriction and regular physical exercise.

Apart from medicines I would advise her following guidelines
Salt restricted diet or low salt and low fat diet
She should take Lots of fruits and steamed vegetables
Yoga and meditation regularly to reduce stress and anxiety
Aerobic and regular exercise as much she can easily do like walking or swimming.

Please do let me know if you have any more queries I will be happy to help you
Best wishes

Brief Answer:
ECG is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome again and thanks for uploading ECG report.

I have seen the ECG, it's absolutely normal
You should ask her doctor to replace amlodipine if swelling progressively increases or it becomes unbearable, with other antihypertensive like losartan or diuretics group.

Thanks for your question
Wishing her good health
Regards
