Question: Hello Doctor,
My relative has delivered a pre-matured baby in 7th month. She was prescribed Ayrvedic tablets Vidyandand's Saptamas for better nourishment of baby and mother especially in the 7th month. I would like a second opinion... if it is still recommended to take these tables (after delivery).

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health query and after reviewing your case, I'm of the following opinion:

1. As 7th month has passed and also preterm delievery has been done [sorry to hear that] thus I would not have recommended continuing with the tablets since it is meant to provide nourishment to the fetus [inside womb], so request you to kindly consult with your attending health care provider.

2. Since how many days have passed after delivery, for that I usually prescribe:
- Balant kadha no. 1: for the first 10 days
- Balant kadha no. 2: from 11th to 20th day
- Balant kadha no. 3: from 21st day to 60th day

PS. the medicine is of SANDU Pharmacy, so you can start with any of the above [keeping in mind the days gone after delivery]

3. As the baby is preterm thus he/she must have been under the regular supervision of Pediatrician in NICU [giving extra medical attention], so things [health or long-term issues] to watch out and to keep in mind are:

- Anemia of prematurity [iron is deposited in the fetal body, in the last phase of intrauterine life, thus premature babies are specifically susceptible to iron deficiency] thus do not give iron supplements as this will be physiological and giving unnecessary iron supplements might result in iron overloading/poisoning

- remember that their developmental milestone will be assessed from their due date and not when they are actually born.

- you can ask for other exhaustive lists from the attending physician.

PS. only thing is that one has to find and treat health problem(s) as early as possible [if any surfaces]

With warm regards to the family and affection to the aspiring baby.
