What Causes A Black Spot On The Tongue?
My 93 year old great aunt has multiple cardiac problems and hospice sends their healthcare workers here to care for her. Tonight I noticed a black spot on her tongue. Should I call them or is this something that can wait until morning? Any ideas of what it might be? I know she frequently has anemia but I ve never noticed this before. I feed her so I think I would have noticed. No, she hasn t had anything today that could to eat that could have stained her tongue.

Did she bite her tongue or complain about any pain in the tongue? The swelling may be due to a small hematoma in tongue due to bite. If the black spot increases in size or she complains of pain in tongue, then please call for medical help.
