Can Brilinta Be Taken In Place Of Plavix?

Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: My 32-year-old son suffered a major heart attack (Left anterior descending) one month ago (1/2/17). It took six minutes to revive him and took us totally by XXXXXXX since he has lead an extremely healthy life style, has an excellent BMI and there seems to be a lack of family cardiac issues. My question is: His original cardiologist in the hospital put him on Plavix but we are now seeing another cardiologist who is recommending he switch to Brilanta. It probably doesn't matter but for what it's worth - he's Caucasian. If he were your patient, what would you recommend? Many Thanks! - XXXXXXX XXXX

One other item. Cost is not a factor since my son's insurance covers both Plavix and Brilanta. Thanks!

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Based on your son new age and since the cost isn't a factor I would recommend him taking Brilinta.

Brilinta is more effective in preventing blood clots and stent reclosure and what is more imporrant its efect doesn't depend on liver or other organ functions. This is why Brilinta is more effective.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
