Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: Is there a way my daughter contracted Chlamydia without sexual relations? There are a number of students both maie and female that have this STD and my daughter maintains she is not sexually active and has never been. She is very upset with the diagnosis from her OB. She did not ask her OB this question as she received the call when she was in school today.

Brief Answer:
It is not likely to contract chlamydia otherwise without sexual contact!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have read through your information fully. For sure, it would be a hard to sell to any physician that your daughter contracted chlamydia without any sexual contact. I don't want to question the veracity of her saying she's still a virgin but these two pieces of information are not compatible at this time. I will recommend you talk with her and reassure without any prejudice so that she may be very clear on her standings. If she maintains her claims, I will suggest that you get the test repeated for further clarifications. If the test still return positive, then am afraid she may not be telling the exact truth.

I hope this helps. I wish her well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
NO, this is mainly and almost exclusively a sexually transmitted infection!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is unlikely to be a plausible explanation as this infection is known to be almost exclusively transmitted through sexual intercourse. Unless there is something going wrong that I cannot figure out, I will not think otherwise.
I also find it strange that the doctor would order such a test if for real she believed that she is a virgin. This test is only request in sexually active persons. And again, something isn't going on very right there.

I hope this addresses your worry. I wish you and your daughter the best and open for further discussions if need be.
