Can Cymbalta Be Taken Instead Of Wellbutrin And Citalopram Without Any Side Effects?
Question: I am currently taking 20 mg of Celexa and 300 mg of Wellebutrin HCL XL and seem to be doing ok with my
depression and sadness. My rheumatologist would like me to switch to Cymbalta
for fibromyalgia symptoms and nerve pain. I am afraid to switch because of side effects, and possible complete mood swings.
Do you have any thoughts on this, my psychiatrist says it's my decision. Frankly, he is not very helpful anymore. I cannot switch doctors that easily, because most of them do not take insurance.

The majority of people tolerate Cymbalta very well. You are basically on half of the maximum dose of Celexa and a pretty good dose of Wellbutrin which means you could always increase your dose you are currently on to see if that gives you any relief.
Cymbalta does have a very weird side effect profile. It does not sound like you are very excited about your current regimen as it is not controlling your pain, depression, sadness, and fibromyalgia. Therefore, changing medications might be the answer. However, you have to understand that it could take months for the medications to work appropriately and effectively. Effexor is another good medication that should be considered. You should also consider Nortriptyline. All 3 are very good options for pain control, fibromyalgia, and depression. You may try one, and hate the side effects; thus you will need to try another. The worst possible option would be to go back to your current regimen.
