Can Dextromethorphan, Acetaminophen And Lexapro Be Taken Together?
Question: I have a cold and wish to take a cold relief formula hat contains dextromethorphan and guaifenesin and phenylephrine as well as acetaminophen in it. I am on Lexapro. 10 mg a day. Is it ok to take the cold meds?
Brief Answer:
dextromethorphan and lexapro interact
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
There is a risk of a possible serious interaction between dextromethorphan and lexapro (escitalopram).
Both of these medications can increase the level of a chemical called serotonin and potentially cause the serotonin syndrome
Serotonin syndrome can cause tremors, increase body temperature, confusion, increased heart rate and blood pressure, confusion, nausea, hallucination, diarrhea.
You should consider using a cough mixture without the dextromethorphan.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
