Can Diprovate Be Used For Phimosis?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: I am 30 years old and suffering from Phimosis (tight foreskin) since the past 5 - 6 months. It is an acquired condition and I am unsure of the reason of acquisition of the same. Having researched about the subject on the internet, I came to know that it can be cured by either of the following:
1) Regular stretching exercises with simultaneous application of corticosteroids (betamethasone 0.1%)
2) Circumcision (I DO NOT want to go for this option)

- Could you please advise if local application of Diprovate Plus (Betamethasone Dipropionate, 0.05%) accompanied with simultaneous stretching will yield the desired cure?
- Is Diprovate a suitable cream to use for this? If not, what are the other alternatives?
- Do you suggest simultaneous intake of any anti fungal pills/ creams so as to prevent any infections caused by the cream?
- Will this procedure work?

Once again, I donot want to go for surgical treatment of this condition. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Using steroid cream will not help to cure it permanently .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .You have developed Phimosis and have been trying to stretch the foreskin with application of steroidal cream .

I would state that the effect of stretching will not last longer and more over it will cause further fibrosis and thickening of foreskin making it more tight .

The only best treatment option is to get circumcised .

This is a simple surgery done under local anaesthesia as a
out patient procedure and offers permanent cure and helps to have enjoyable sex for rest of the life.

Else you can undergo dorsal slit procedure where foreskin is incised on dorsal aspect ,This helps to retract the foreskin over the glans penis .However the cosmetic appearance of the penis and glans after this procedure is not acceptable to most of the female partners .

I think you have some misunderstanding about circumcision .
Discuss both the procedures with your Urologist before taking any decision .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks for your response!

So you're saying stretching will not work and I have to indeed go for surgery.

However, I read a lot of negative comments/ research about circumcision such as reduced sensitivity, etc. Moreover, the thought of having a surgery done on the most sensitive area is giving me nightmares.

Some of the related links about negative aspects of circumcision are:

Anyways, in case I need to go for surgery, could you please help me with some additional questions:

- How long does it take for the circumcision procedure and to fully heal? I am about to get married in 3 months time :)
- What are the associated risks of circumcision?
- Will it be worth giving stretching a last try? I haven't yet tried it with steroidal cream? I understand you advised against it. Still, are there zero chances of healing through stretching? I hope you understand my position.

Thanks in advance for your help on this.

Brief Answer:
Circumcision is the best option for Phimosis .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
Every individual from the entire Muslim community in the world undergo circumcision in the childhood .Is there any data or incidence of loss of sensitiveness from this community .

Loss of foreskin after circumcision leads to glans penis exposed to atmosphere to become it less sensitive but one gets accustomed to it over a period of time .In fact the reduced sensitiveness helps to prolong the intercourse and helps in getting orgasm to female partner .

As regards your queries I would answer .
1) It takes 30-40 minutes for surgery and 3 weeks for complete healing .
2) There is no risk of surgery .It is a simple surgery .
3) Do not have trial of stretching foreskin at all .It will be futile exercise .

Do not worry and get it done at earliest

Thanks and Regards .
